Environmental Specialist – Minneapolis, MN

Job Description:

The Environmental Specialist is an entry-level position conducting industrial hygiene analysis of the built environment. The Environmental Specialist will have a strong technical background, has the ability to learn new subject matter and works well collaboratively. This position reports to the Hazardous Materials Group Manager.

An Environmental Specialist performs a variety of project specific on-site duties including, but not limited to:
  • Asbestos Building Surveys
  • Asbestos Abatement Monitoring
  • Comprehensive Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) assessments and investigations
  • Lead based paint inspections and risk assessments
  • Radon Assessments
  • Supervise contractor on site to ensure contract specifications and state and federal regulations are followed
  • Provide in-house analytical microscopy
  • Analyze data and recommend course of action
  • Interpret or work from drawings, specifications, diagrams and schematics
  • Author technical reports documenting all work conducted and samples collected
  • Maintain a direct line of contact with project manager
Requirements:
  • College degree in a science-based field
  • HAZWOPER, AHERA certification training a plus
  • Work experience in the fields of safety, industrial hygiene, hazardous materials control or other construction trades a plus
  • 1-3 years of environmental consulting experience preferred
  • This position requires successful completion of 40 hours of OSHA health and safety training for working with potentially contaminated materials (provided, as needed), annual 8-hour refresher courses, and annual medical monitoring
  • Acquire and maintain Asbestos Analyst Registry (AAR) Certification
  • Strong technical writing skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to meet deadlines
  • Excellent work ethic
  • Ability to work independently and interact effectively with supervisors and clients
  • The ability and willingness to perform fieldwork and travel are also required. Applicant must be willing to travel up to 50%-75% of the time (local and nationwide), with the ability to travel on short notice (1 week or less), and occasionally work nights and weekends
  • Valid/current state driver’s license and satisfactory Motor Vehicle Drivers Record
  • Physical Demands: Ability to physically navigate site properties in various weather conditions; ability to climb a ladder to gain roof access; must be able to lift 25 lbs
